The article presents the results of the analysis of the concepts of “abbreviation”, “abbreviation” and “acronym”.The study brings out that the most commonly used abbreviations are initial ones, and most abbreviations are used for speech resources saving.Practical implications.The practical significance of the research lies in the fact that the results obtained can be used in teaching students written and oral translation from English into Russian and from Russian into English.
